Winter championships still on hold by PIAA
After Gov. Tom Wolf’s announcement Monday that all schools in Pennsylvania will be closed at least two more weeks, the PIAA released its first statement since Wolf’s last decree that schools would be closing on March 16.
The PIAA announced that the start of spring sports will be pushed back at least two more weeks to match the school timeline, but it also said the “possible re-start of the winter championships will continue to be on hold,” leaving open the possibility state basketball and swimming competitions could still finish up.
The Bishop Guilfoyle, Bellwood-Antis, Tyrone and Cambria Heights girls are all still in limbo with their PIAA quarterfinal games, along with the Bishop Guilfoyle and Bishop Carroll boys.
The Class 2A swimming state championships also have yet to be held.
