Newcomers: Freshmen — Rachel Lieb (of), Alivia McCracken (inf.), Riley Maines (utl.), Lakin Baker (of-c), Malia Shutty (utl.), Lauren Daisley (utl.), Lacy Lanzendorfer (p-inf.).

Strengths: “Our returning starting lineup. Their extensive experience as most of them are two-year letterwinners. They have been in tough games as the Heritage Conference, in softball, has a lot of talented and battle-tested teams. Also, these young ladies have been to three straight 2A semifinals in the District 6 playoffs. They are looking forward to hopefully go all the way.”

Concerns: “My pitching staff is young. The only battle-tested pitcher we have is our sophomore Jessica Krug, who threw to most of the stronger teams last year and performed well. Kayla Boring, our junior, had some spot appearances and did well pitching in specific circumstances to take advantage of her strengths. She will be called upon to do more this year. Our newcomer, Lacy Lanzendorfer, may see some action also.”

Overall outlook: “If the season is allowed to begin, I believe we should be right in the thick of the playoff hunt for a conference and District 6 2A title. Our experience and drive to be the best will keep us competitive in every game hopefully making us a very tough out. Our defense should be an improvement over last year and if our young pitching staff covers the strike zone, I expect us to go far this spring.”

Assistant coaches: Ashlee Parrish, Sean Kudlawiec, Brian Lieb

Concerns: “A new staff of coaches, but the team has been working very well together and making the transition easy for the new coaches as well as for themselves. The Mountain League is not an easy league to be in but we believe we have a team that can give themselves the opportunity to win every game they play.”

Overall outlook: “We are looking to move forward and work every day to get better and continue the winning tradition of the Philipsburg-Osceola softball team.”
