Sarbo only one from area at No. 1

TYRONE — Altoona’s Matt Sarbo is the only area No. 1 seed entering Saturday’s District 6 Class 3A Tournament at the AAHS Fieldhouse.

The seeding meeting was held on Tuesday night at the Tyrone Area Middle School.

Sarbo, a two-time District 6 champion, is the top seed at 132. As expected, State College’s Owen Woolcott, whom Sarbo beat in last year’s 126-pound district and Northwest Regional Tournament finals, is the second seed.

“Of course, Matt Sarbo got the first seed, so we’re pretty happy with that,” Altoona coach Joel Gilbert said.

The one-day, eight-team tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the quarterfinals. The semifinals and consolations rounds and will continue throughout the morning and afternoon with mandatory breaks.

The championship finals, third-place bouts and fifth-place bouts are set for 5 p.m. after the 4:30 p.m. District 6 Hall of Fame ceremony.

The top four placers at every weight class will return to the Fieldhouse next week for the Northwest Regional Tournament.
