Ridge in good shape at Bedford

BEDFORD — Many area wrestlers are still alive to take the medal stand when the Thomas Chevrolet Tournament resumes today at Bedford High School.

Chestnut Ridge leads the team standings with 155.5 points and 10 wrestlers in the semifinals, while Huntingdon comes into today with 87 points at sixth place. Bedford rounds out the top 10 in ninth with 78 points.

106: Chestnut Ridge’s top-seeded Calan Bollman is the only local wrestler in the semifinals, where he will face off with Lower Burrell’s Nike Ferra for a spot in the finals.

Five of the eight spots in the consy bracket at 106 feature local wrestlers.

Tussey’s Mike Lazor and Central’s Jaxon Matthews wrestle on one side of the wrestle-backs, while on the other side, Bedford’s Josh Diehl gets Riley Hoenstine of Northern Garrett, and Huntingdon’s Landon Dunsmore faces Northern Bedford’s Reyan Imler.

113: The second of three top seeds in the lower weights for Chestnut Ridge, Kai Burket will square off with Northern Garrett’s Jacob Brenneman.

In the wrestle-backs, Kobi Burket is also still grinding for a medal, and will face Luke Geibig of Mount Pleasant while Central Cambria’s Zach Brandis will face Shawn Szymanski of Burrell.

120: Nate Holderbaum rounds out the dominant lightweights for the Lions. His opponent in the semifinals will be Nick Salerno of Burrell.

Chad Weist (Tussey Mountain) and Eden Wagner (Huntingdon), are also still alive in the consys. Weist will wrestle Athen’s Kaden Seltzer and Wagner will face North Schuykill’s Danny Grigas.

126: Three area athletes will look to punch a ticket to finals, but only two will survive to the end. Tussey’s Hunter Horton and Ross Dull of Chestnut Ridge face off in one half of the 126 final four, while Huntingdon’s Roland Mills will get Damien George of Mount Pleasant.

There are three left in the consys as well. Central Cambria’s Daniel Lazer gets Isaac Westrick (Cambria Heights), while Bedford’s Camden Koontz, the five seed, gets Tyler Fisher of Beth-Center.

132: Kaleb Miller, the four seed, takes on top-seed Ian Oswalt of Burrell later this afternoon. In the wrestle-backs, Jacob Dawson (Bedford), Jaden Perrin (Everett), and Cole Claycomb (Claysburg-Kimmel) all still have a shot at bronze.

138: Kaden Cassidy and Trevor Weyandt appear to be on a collission course for each other in the finals if they can get through their next opponents.

Cassidy, the top seed, will get Tyler Coddinglton of Berlin Brothersvalley, the 28th seed. Weyandt, the third seed, gets Kenny Duschek from Freedom Area.

Four more wrestlers are still going in the consys, as well. On one side, Northern Bedford’s Ian Sherlock and Claysburg’s Cade Keithly have the potential to face off with wins this morning.

On the other side, if Colton Bollman (Chestnut Ridge) wins his first match today, he gets either Chandler Lauer of Huntingdon of Lane Younker of Everett.

145: Chestnut Ridge’s third seed, Gryphon Callihan, faces two seed Dorian Gonzalez of Newport for a spot in the finals.

The consys pit Sid Grove (Everett) vs. Tyler Hess (Central), while Adam McCullough (Central Cambria) and Nick Brumbaugh (Tussey Mountain) are also still in it.

152: Chestnut Ridge’s Luke Moore will take on North Star’s Alec Supanik.

The wrestlebacks will have Brady Clark (Northern Bedford) and Jalen Kovac (Cambria Heights) looking to get third place.

160: Daniel Moore might see a somewhat familiar face across the mat if he beats Meyersdale top seed Austin Broadwater to reach the finals. Claysburg-Kimmel’s Kobe Harr, the second seed, will wrestle Hunter Wilhelm of Northern Garrett.

In the conys, Brian Deline of Huntingdon gets Connor Clark of Bedford.

170: Huntingdon’s Myles Baney will take on Jacob Schieb of Tri-Valley for a spot in the 170 championship.

Four local grapplers are still active in the consys. Ridge’s Baltzer Bowman faces Heights’ Zach Weakland in one match, while Central’s Michael Fowkes and Northern Bedford’s Colby Imler are on the opposite side of the bracket.

182: Three local wrestlers remain in the semfinals, with Ethan Cubat (Central Cambria) and Seth Holderbaum (Chestnut Ridge) in one match, and top-seeded Ian Eckenrode (Camrbia Heights) will face Cole Clark of Burrell.

Five will return in the consolation bracket, including Bedford’s Cooper Lingenfelter, Penn Cambria’s Jacob Davis, Central’s Ethan Eicher, and in a match against each other, Huntingdon’s Gage Peters and Northern Bedford’s Dakota Korzec.

195: Bedford’s Ashton Dull and Huntingdon’s Zack Peters have a chance to face off in the finals if both can win today. Peters takes on top-seeded Ricky Feroce of Burrell, while Dull gets Athens’ Ben Pernaselli.

Cody Rock is still alive in the wrestlebacks, and on the other side, Ridge’s Dom Claar and Northern Bedford’s Kainen Brown will battle to stay in the tournament.

220: Another potential all-area matchup is in the works for the 220 finals. Everett’s Logan Propst will wrestle top seed Ethan Rode of Newport, while second-seeded Duane Knisely of Chestnut Ridge will face Greenville’s AnthonyGentile.

Jayven Richey (Tussey Mountain), Austin Wagner (Penn Cambria), Skyler Thrasher (Bedford) and Zane MIller (Cambria Heights), will all wrestle again today in the consolations.

285: Tussey’s Matt Wilkins, the three seed, will take his shot at the finals tonight when he tries to knock off two seed Dawson Brown of Northeast Bradford.

Northern Bedford’s Derek Beach, Chestnut Ridge’s Noah Smith, and Penn Cambria’s Jared Berkheimer are all still alive.

Ultimate Warrior Tournament

MORRISDALE — Seven area athletes remain in the semifinal round when the Ultimate Warrior Tournament picks back up today at West Branch High School.

Tyrone is the top area team in the event, currently in eighth place with 58.5 points. Mifflin County leads after one day with 108.5 points. Also making the trip were Philipsburg-Osceola (9th, 58), Bellwood-Antis (16th, 44), Altoona (T-17th, 42.5), Hollidaysburg (24th, 25) and Moshannon Valley (30th, 12).

106: Korry Walls is the lone area athlete left at 106. The fifth seed will take on top seeded Nic Allison of Mifflin County for a championship opportunity.

113: Hunter Walk is the top seed at this weight, and will take on Connor Saylor of Hickory.

In the consolations, Altoona’s Jordan Carlucci will take on Philipsburg’s Nickl Coudriet.

120: Nobody in the championship bracket, but Tyrone’s Ashton Sipes is still alive down below, and will face Cameron Sweigert of Juniata today.

126: Altoona’s Damian Finnegan reached the semifinals, where he will take on Muncy’s Kevin Morehouse. Bellwood’s Nick Kost is still battling in the wrestlebacks, where he will face Enzo Angelicchio of Greater Latrobe.

132: Matt Sarbo of Altoona is one win away from the finals, but in order to get there, he’ll have to get through third-seeded Anthony Glasl of Brockway.

Philipsburg’s Gabe Dunkelberger is in the consolations taking on Carter Gill of Hickory.

138: The only area wrestler still going is Philipsburg’s Chase Chapman. The three seed will take on Dominic Frontino of Shippensburg.

145: Austin Foster keeps local hopes of a medal alive in the wrestlebacks, with the Philipsburg grappler set to take of Wyalising’s Skyler Manahan.

152: Two area wrestlers meet in the consolation final eight, as Bellwood’s Aiden Taylor takes on Hollidaysburg’s Aaron Sleeth.

160: P-O’s Hunter Weitosh is the five seed, and will take on Saint Joe’s top seed, Keegan Rothrock, for a spot in the championship tonight.

Meanwhile, Bellwood’s Alex Taylor and Hollidaysburg’s Campbell Walls are on opposite ends of the consolation bracket.

170: Tyrone’s Alex Weaver stands alone among area wrestlers in this bracket. He’s set to face Bradford’s Derek Sunafrank in the consolation quarterfinals.

182: Two area athletes remain here, with Bellwood’s Zack Cunningham and Tyrone’s Zack Lash battling back for a medal opportunity.

195: Parker Moore of P-O eyes gold on the other side of his matchup today with Southern Columbia top seed Gage Garcia.

Three wrestlers remain in the consolations, as Moshannon Valley’s Dave Honan takes on Altoona’s Josh Keirn, while Dominic Caracciola from Bellwood-Antis is also still wrestling.

220: Bellwood’s Nate Jenings, Tyrone’s Jason Barr and Philipsburg’s Tyler Anderson are all still wrestling in the wrestlebacks. Anderson and Barr can face each other if they both win their first match today.

285: Evan Pellegrine is still going for Bellwood in the consolations along with Altoona’s Trevor Manley. If both keep winning, they have a chance to meet for third place.
