Newman lifts Tigers over Lions

UNIVERSITY PARK — Hughie Newman’s shot found the back of the net in overtime to lift Hollidaysburg past State College, 4-3, at Greenburg Ice Pavillion in high school ice hockey action on Thursday.

The Tigers gave up two goals in the third period before Nate Ferris scored with help from Zack Dunlap and Justin Singer to tie the game and force the extra period.

Sarah Hoover and Mae Decker each won two events to help the Tyrone girls prevail, 89-81.

EVERETT — The Everett Area High School rifle team improved to 8-0, thanks to a 1,380-1,378 win over Conemaugh Township.

The Warriors were led by Morgan White, Allison Klavuhn and Claudia Sigel, who all shot 280.

Conemaugh Township got a 283 from Haley Fetterman.

PORTAGE — Nate Moore and Rhianna Benton each shots 275s to lead the Portage rifle team to a 1355-1228 victory over Northern Cambria.

Portage improved its record to 7-3. Trace Chordas led Northern Cambria with a 260.
