College basketball preview capsules
PSU men at Minnesota
Tipoff: 9 p.m., Williams Arena, Minneapolis
Records: Penn State (12-4, 2-3 Big Ten); Minnesota (9-7, 3-3)
Coaches: Pat Chambers is 139-144 in his ninth season at Penn State and 181-172 in 11 seasons overall. Richard Pitino is 120-99 in his seventh season at Minnesota and 138-113 in eight seasons overall.
Radio: Penn State Sports Network (1430-AM in Altoona)
Notes: Penn State’s hot offense has come to screeching halt heading into this Big Ten road matchup. Over it’s past two games (both losses), Penn State is averaging just 55 points and shooting just under 45 percent from the floor… Minnesota, meanwhile is coming off a 75-67 win over No. 19 Michigan and defeated No. 21 Ohio State last month… ESPN’s matchup predictor gives Minnesota a 63.6 percent chance to win.
Mirror prediction: Minnesota 71, Penn State 66
Comment: While I think shots will start falling for the Nittany Lions, road games are just not fun this year in the Big Ten.
Mirror prediction record: 10-6

SFU men at FDU
Tipoff: 5 p.m., Rothman Center, Hackensack, N.J.
Records: Saint Francis (10-5, 3-1 NEC); Fairleigh Dickinson (3-12, 1-3)
Coaches: Rob Krimmel is 107-128 in his eighth season at Saint Francis and overall. Greg Herenda is 84-120 in his seventh season at FDU.
Radio: Online at sfuathletics.com
Notes: This game will be nationally televised, a great opportunity for Krimmel and the Red Flash to showcase themselves. … FDU beat Saint Francis in the NEC title game last season in Loretto, for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Flash shot 4-for-17 from the free-throw line in that game. … The Knights have stunned SFU in the NEC tourney each of the past two seasons. … FDU has a bad record but is always dangerous. For instance, the Knights’ lone league win came at Bryant, which beat SFU. … The Flash are favored by 3 ¢ points.
Mirror prediction: Saint Francis 76, FDU 72
Comment: I was typing FDU in the line above predicting a win for the Knights, then stopped myself. This is a revenge game for the Flash, and that goes a long way. SFU also has won eight of nine and is playing with a lot of confidence.
Mirror prediction record: 12-3
