Swogger shines in victory

BURLINGTON, VT. — Karson Swogger saved her best for last — twice.

Swogger hit a 3-pointer with 52 seconds left in regulation for the Saint Francis women’s basketball team Sunday to force overtime, then hit another 3-pointer with 33 seconds left in the second overtime to help the Red Flash beat Vermont, 73-69.

Swogger’s last 3-pointer made it 70-69 Red Flash (2-5). Teammate Phee Allen then hit three free throws in the final eight seconds to seal the victory. Swogger finished with 18 points.

Vermont (2-6) led 28-22 at halftime before the Red Flash started their comeback, which was sealed with a 16-11 showing in the final frame. Haley Thomas added 14 points for Saint Francis while teammate Lili Benzel added 12 points. Jada Dapaa was a force inside with 11 rebounds and eight points.

The Lady Catamounts got 28 points and 11 rebounds from Hanna Crymble to go with 20 points from Emma Utterback.

Saint Francis returns to action this Saturday at 2 p.m. hosting Youngstown State.
