‘Purple Puck’ night scheduled for this Friday

The Penn State Altoona hockey team is raising awareness on the fight of cancer by staging “Purple Puck Night.”

Friday night at Galactic Ice, the Lions will meet Saint Vincent College at 5 p.m.

The teams, along with College Hockey East, have partnered with the Mario Lemieux Foundation, The Griffith Family Foundation and Easter for Eli.

Named for Greg Griffith, who passed away in 2011, the Sideline Cancer Campaign has raised over $290,000 to create awareness and find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

Easter for Eli is named for Elias Garrett of Altoona, who passed away from lymphoma in 2009 just before his fourth birthday.

Friday’s festivities will include recognition of supporters and survivors of cancer along with families that have lost loved ones.

Raffle items include an autographed hockey stick by Pittsburgh Penguin and Hollidaysburg native Sam Lafferty, three autographed Mario Lemieux jerseys along with Penguins tickets and other prizes.
