Offense leads Lions over D’Youville
The Penn State Altoona men’s basketball team had a banner day on the offensive end of the court Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 112-91 win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent D’Youville College in the Adler Auxiliary Gym.
The Lions (5-2, 3-2 AMCC) created several new entries in the program’s single game records. The team’s total of 112 points is tied for the third-most in a game, and its 45 field goals made is also the third-most. Additionally, Penn State Altoona finished with the sixth-most rebounds in a game by grabbing 57 boards as a team, and the Lions tied for the eighth-most blocks (9) and tied for the ninth-most assists (24) in a game.
Eagles fall in Doc Greene finals
HUNTINGDON — Juniata could not overcome a 17-point halftime deficit in its 67-52 loss to Johnson & Wales in the Doc Green Tournament championship Saturday.
Behind 37-20 after 20 minutes, the Eagles did surge for 32 points in the second half but only outscored the Wildcats by two points. John Kelly led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points, and Hollidaysburg graduate Jake Holsopple had 11 points off the bench. Brian Hogan-Gary led all scorers with 30 points for Johnson & Wales.
Mounties offense comes up short
ERIE — Despite another solid scoring night from Julian Stover (17 points), Mount Aloysius’ offense could not keep up with Penn State Behrend in 79-68 road defeat.
Carolos Palacio came off the bench for 21 points, Trent McErlane has 12 points, and Imil Britt had 11 points for the Mounties.
Lady Lions win fourth straight
Another solid performance by the Penn State Altoona women’s basketball team led to a 90-63 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent D’Youville College in the Adler Auxiliary Gym.
The win was the fourth in a row for Penn State Altoona (6-3, 4-1 AMCC), which is now tied for the most wins in the AMCC this season heading into winter break.
Penn State Altoona had six players finish with double-digit scoring totals.
Lady Mounties fall flat
ERIE — Rachel Robinson had 14 points led all scorers and was Mount Aloysius’ only player to reach double-figures in a 62-35 loss to Penn State Behrend.
Kourtney Beamesderfer led the Lady Lions with 13 points.
