Rinker among hopefuls

HERSHEY — Two singles players and one doubles team from the area will try to navigate their way through the PIAA Tennis Championships beginning today.

District 6 Class 3A singles champion, senior Alese Rinker of Altoona, starts her quest at 8:30 a.m. today at the Hershey Racquet Club against District 1 runner-up, senior Caitlin Le of Souderton. The winner will advance to the 3 p.m. quarterfinals with the semifinals and final set for Saturday.

District 5 Class 2A singles champion, senior Emily Ruhlman of Bedford, opens play at 11:30 a.m. today against District 1 champ, Lower Moreland sophomore Nikole Lisovyy. The winner will play in the 5 p.m. quarterfinals.

Also in action will be Central Cambria senior Emma Ratchford and junior Olivia Ratchford, the District 6 2A doubles champions. They’ll face Greensburg Salem senior Kasey Storkel and freshman Paige Storkel, the District 7 runner-up, at 1 p.m. with the quarterfinals set for 5 p.m.

Ruhlman and the Ratchfords have previously competed in the state tournament.
