Lions lose to Walsh in exhibition

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Penn State Altoona men’s basketball took a 119-76 loss to Division II opponent No. 25 Walsh University on Saturday afternoon in the Alumni Arena.

The game was an exhibition contest for Penn State Altoona (2-0) and will not count toward the Lions’ record or statistics. It was, however, a countable regular season game for Walsh (5-0).

Cameron Gardner-Nicholson scored a team-high 18 points for the Lions while grabbing seven rebounds and blocking a pair of shots. Robbie Hicks added 17 points, while Central Cambria alum Nate Gillen scored 13 points off the bench. Andruw Harman posted game-highs with 15 rebounds and three blocks.

Mount men pull out win

CRESSON — Nate Christian’s 29-point, 11-rebound double-double carried Mount Aloysius to a 73-65 victory over Dicksinson.

Trent McErlane posted 15 points for the Mounties, which improved to 3-2.

Eagles lose on buzzer-beater

HUNTINGDON — Juniata dropped a 60-57 decision to Saint Elizabeth on a last-second buzzer beater Saturday on the second day of the Comfort Inn Classic.

Cameron Peck scored a team-high 16 points for the Eagles (1-2).

Lady Lions rally

Penn State Altoona women’s basketball overcame a deficit through three quarters of play during Saturday afternoon’s non-conference battle in the Adler Auxiliary Gym, coming back in the fourth quarter to defeat Bethany College, 74-62.

The Lady Lions (2-2) trailed Bethany 51-48 by the conclusion of the third quarter, but Penn State Altoona used a strong defensive effort in the final period of play to rally past the Bison.

Tyrone graduate Alexis Cannistraci scored a game-high 16 points for Penn State Altoona while grabbing six rebounds and blocking two shots.

Sydney Snyder, a Northern Bedford grad, added 12 points and a game-high five assists, and Tyrone alum Finnley Christine scored 11 points while tying for the game-high in steals with four.

Kaley Strittmatter (Penn Cambria) added nine points, and Paige Burk (Claysburg-Kimmel) tied Christine with four steals and secured a team-best seven rebounds.

Lady Eagles fall flat

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The offene went cold in the second half for the Juniata women in a 70-46 loss to Case Western on the second day of the M-Club Tournament at Mount Union College.

Gracie Stauffer had a double-double with a team-high 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Kitkos shine for Mount

LANCASTER — Moshannon Valley graduates Hannah and Emma Kitko each scored 14 points to lead Mount Aloysius past Lancaster Bible, 56-45.

Hannah also had a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Mounties as they picked up their first win of the season (1-3).
