Carroll moving on to second round

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP — Bishop Carroll, ranked No. 8 in the latest Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class 1A poll, topped Bishop Canevin, the No. 4 ranked team, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21, at North Catholic High School Tuesday night.

Mara Yahner recorded 32 kills and 10 digs, Mia Wyland had 32 service points, 10 aces and 16 digs, and Sara Muriceak had 37 assists and 10 digs.

“It feels pretty good,” Bishop Carroll coach Katie Wyland said. “We had only two returning starters from last year’s (PIAA semifinalist) team, but they gave it all and it showed. We didn’t start until 8:30, and it was a long night, but it was a fantastic night.”

The Lady Huskies will play Clarion, which swept Saegertown, on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Clarion is ranked No. 1 in the PVCA poll.

“We came back full force like (losing to Northern Cambria in the district championship) didn’t happen,” Wyland said. “We put that memory out of our heads, and they played with everything they had. All the girls were moving and talking. It was a great team effort.”

SERVICE POINTS

BISHOP CARROLL: Becquet 8, Dieseler 6, Koscho 8, Yahner 7, Wyland 32, Muriceak 4.

Records: Bishop Carroll (17-5).
