Lions, Tigers receive top seeds in districts

Altoona Area and Hollidaysburg Area High Schools each had its boys and girls soccer teams earn No. 1 seeds for the upcoming District 6 playoffs.

The Altoona boys and girls teams will each play second-seeded State College in the Class 4A championship games, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 29 at a site to be determined.

The Hollidaysburg boys and girls will play in the Class 3A championship games, which are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28 at Saint Francis University. The Lady Tigers face second-seeded Bellefonte at 5:30 p.m., and the Golden Tigers take on second-seeded Tyrone at 7:30.

Other top seeds were the Bishop Carroll boys and Westmont Hilltop girls in 1A, and the Westmont boys and Bald Eagle Area girls in 2A.

The tournament begins Tuesday with four Class 1A quarterfinal games, including the third-seeded Bishop Guilfoyle girls taking on sixth-seeded Bishop McCort at Mansion Park at 7:30 p.m. The fourth-seeded Moshannon Valley girls play fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s at Philipsburg-Osceola High School at 7:30 p.m.

The Bishop Carroll boys will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mansion Park against the winner of Saint Joseph’s and Belleville Mennonite.

In Class 2A girls, the quarterfinals will be held Wednesday and Thursday with Bald Eagle Area hosting eighth-seeded Cambria Heights on Thursday, second-ranked Bedford taking on seventh-seeded Richland at Mansion Park on Thursday, and fourth-seeded Huntingdon played fifth-seeded Juniata at Juniata College on Wednesday.

In the Class 2A boys quarterfinals on Wednesday, third-seeded Penn Cambria takes on sixth-seeded Central Cambria at Mount Aloysius College and second-seeded Huntingdon plays seventh-seeded Penns Valley at Juniata College. On Thursday, eighth-seeded Cambria Heights plays top-seeded Westmont at Richland.

The 1A finals will be held at Mansion Park on Wednesday, Oct. 30, and the 2A finals will also be held at Mansion Park on Thursday, Oct. 31.
