IUP ups record to 6-1

CLARION — The IUP football team jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter Saturday afternoon en route to a 59-21 win over Clarion in an Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory.

Three different Crimson Hawks found the end zone in the first quarter for IUP, now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC. Samir Bullock scored o a 2-yard run while Duane Brown caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Quinton Maxwell. Ryan Langdon added a 2-yard run.

Maxwell finished the afternoon completing 15 of 21 passes for 219 yards and three touchdown passes to go with one interception. Brown caught three passes for 94 yards.

IUP was up 31-7 at halftime as Malik Anderson added a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Clarion (3-4, PSAC 1-3) scored twice in the third quarter, one a 59-yard touchdown reception by Juniata Valley graduate Quinn Zinobile from quarterback Jeff Clemens. Zinobile finished with three catches for 67 yards.

IUP scored three times in the fourth quarter to set the final as Brown caught another Maxwell pass for a score, this one from 53 yards out.

IUP was led on the ground by Justice Evans, who totaled 142 yards on just 14 carries. Teammate Adam Houser had 103 yards on just nine carries.

Altoona graduate James Metzger had three extra-point kicks for Clarion and punted two times for an average of 47 yards per kick. Teammate Chris Gildea, a Hollidaysburg graduate, had an interception.

The Crimson Hawks host Gannon this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
