Swogger a captain

LORETTO — Saint Francis women’s basketball named returning starters Sam Sabino, Karson Swogger and Haley Thomas as team captains for the 2019-20 season on Friday.

Swogger is a Bellwood-Antis High School graduate.

“I am happy to announce that Sam, Haley and Karson have been selected by their teammates to serve as captains this year,” new coach Keila Whittington said. “All three of them were key starters and contributors to the team last season. They are all first-year captains, and the team will count on them to lead by example throughout the season.”

Swogger is the only returning player to have started in all 33 games last season. She averaged 9.3 points, while leading the team with 2.9 assists per contest.

“I am honored to have been selected captain by my teammates,” Swogger said. “I look forward to leading by example both on and off the floor. We have a very special group of players that are all individually talented. As captains, Sam, Haley and myself are excited for the opportunity and responsibility to help mold all of us together as one and work towards bringing the NEC championship back to Loretto.”
