Altoona, CC earn matchups in D6 finals

H.S. girls tennis

Altoona Area High School advanced to today’s finals of the District 6 Class 3A Team Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Central Mountain on Monday at the Mansion Park courts.

Altoona, the No. 2 seed, will play at top-seeded State College in today’s final at 4 p.m.

Alese Rinker, Morgan Stevens and Emma Skelley won singles matches in straight sets for the Lady Lions. Also prevailing for Altoona were the doubles teams of Isabella Frank and Sophia Caputo, and Mya Crownover and Emily Neil.

Lady Tigers finish 14-5

STATE COLLEGE — Hollidaysburg fell to State College, 3-0, in the District 6 Class 3A team semifinals.

The Lady Tigers ended their season with a 14-5 record.

Gretta Rhodes and the team of Madeline Waibel and Jennifer Lasek led and had their matches suspended when State College secured its third team point.

The Lady Little Lions will host Altoona today for the district championship at 4 p.m.

CC sweeps past Central

EBENSBURG — Central Cambria advanced to the District 6 Class 2A team finals with 5-0 win over No. 3 seed Central.

The second-seeded Lady Devils had singles wins from Olivia Ratchford, Emma Ratchford and Corinne Markovich. Sam Archangelo and Rachel Holtz won in No. 1 doubles action, while Ella Persio and Andie McCullough won at No. 2 doubles.

Central Cambria, the No. 2 seed, will play at top-seeded Westmont Hilltop at 3 p.m. today.

BG’s season over

JOHNSTOWN — Bishop Guilfoyle’s season came to an end with a 3-2 loss to Westmont Hilltop in the District 6 Class 2A semifinals.

BG’s Sarah Manna defeated Maria Cortez, 6-2, 6-2, in singles action, while Marissa Hooper and Madison Hooper were 7-5, 6-2 winners in No. 1 doubles action.

Westmont Hilltop, the top seed, will play host today to second-seeded Central Cambria in the final at 3 p.m.

Grier triumphs

TYRONE — Grier won four of the five singles matches to edge Tyrone, 4-3, in a regular-season match.

Maggie Ackley, Vivian Yang, Cindy Wang and Linda Lin won for the Foxes.

Victoria Reese won a singles match for the Lady Eagles, and the teams of Ashlee Walk and Rachel Stricek, and Emilee Walk and Isabella Rhoades swept the doubles action.
