Portage’s Shaffer sets Forest Hills course mark

H.S. cross country

SIDMAN — Portage’s Lauren Shaffer won the girls race in 19:41 to set a new Forest Hills course record, and the Lady Mustangs picked up a win over Bishop Guilfoyle, 15-50, and lost to Forest Hills, 20-43, in high school cross country action on Wednesday.

Jaden Quinn was Guilfoyle’s top performer with a ninth-place finish in 23:21.

The Portage boys also defeated Guilfoyle, 21-35, and lost to Forest Hills, 21-38, with Lane Macy taking second place in 18:35. Colin Cover finished in eighth for Guilfoyle in 20:26.

Dill leads CC

EBENSBURG — Anna Dill out-paced her competition by almost 50 seconds to help the Central Cambria girls to a 23-37 win over Richland.

Dill finished with a time of 22:09, and teammate Marlo Soyka took fourth place in 23:22.

Adam Lechleitner (18:38) and Evan Thomas (18:45) led the Central Cambria boys as the top two place finishers in the boys race, but Richland did not have enough runners to register a team score.

PC boys dominate

PATTON — Brandt Patterson edged Penn Cambria teammate Noah Lee by one second to win the boys race in 22:07 to get Penn Cambria a 15-50 win over Cambria Heights.

Cambria Heights’ Zech Scott finished ninth in 23:08.

Grier’s Edith Manfred took first place in the girls race in 23:13, and Maggie McMullen finished second in 23:46 for Cambria Heights, which defeated both Penn Cambria, 23-32, and Grier, 25-31.

Kasey Farabaugh was Penn Cambria’s highest place finisher, taking third place in 26:15.

Bedford teams split

BEDFORD — Westmont Hilltop’s Nick Fetzer’s time of 18:10 was good enough to win the boys race as Bedford split a pair of meets, defeating Windber, 23-32, but losing to Westmont, 19-36.

Nathaniel Scritchfield finished fourth for the Bisons in 19:49.

Savanna Nesbitt finished in 20:53 to finish second for the Bedford girls, and Meah Eshelman finished fourth in 21:01. The Bedford girls beat Windber, 16-46, but lost to Westmont, 23-32. Westmont topped Windber, 15-40.
