Pens struggle in exhibition defeat

COLUMBUS — The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to 1-1-1 in the NHL preseason Saturday afternoon, thanks to a 3-1 loss at Columbus.

Pittsburgh scored in the first period and was shut out the rest of the way.

On a pass from Andrew Agozzino, with an extra assist from defenseman John Marino, the Pens’ Juuso Rikola scored past Columbus goalie Joonas Korpisalo for a 1-0 lead.

However, the Blue Jackets came back to score on goals from Cam Atikinson, Eric Robinson and Nick Foligno. Two of the three goals came against Pens goalie Casey DeSmith, who finished with 20 saves.

Pittsburgh is back in action this afternoon with a 5 p.m. game against the Detroit Red Wings.
