Mounties split two at home

PHILIPSBURG — Philipsburg-Osceola’s boys and girls split with West Branch and Saint Joseph’s with the Mounties beating the Warriors, but losing to the Wolves in high school cross country on Thursday.

The P-O boys won 21-34 over West Branch. Saint Joe’s won 17-41 over the Mounties. C.J. Muckey led the Mounties with a fifth-place finish in 21:11.

Saint Joe’s Josh Hershbine won the race in 18:35. West Branch’s top runner was Justin Mulhell, who placed seventh (21:18).

Saint Joe’s took the top four spots in the boys race.

On the girls side, P-O bested West Branch, 20-39, and lost to Saint Joe’s, 15-42.

Samantha Bainey led P-O, finishing sixth in 25:37. Saint Joe’s Kathleen Simander won in 22:42, and West Branch’s top runner was Brianna Bare, who took eighth (27:37). Saint Joe’s took the top five spots in the race.

Both P-O teams will take part in the Ben Blosser Invitational this Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
