Scramble to aid Hollidaysburg Veterans Home planned

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Duncansville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8724 will hold its 10th annual golf scramble on Aug. 17 at Sylvan Hills Country Club, Hollidaysburg, with a 9 a.m. tee-off.

Proceeds will benefit the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home Activities Fund.

Registration is $60 per person. The fee includes 18 holes of golf with a car, beverages on the course and tickets to win cash and prizes at the dinner held immediately following the scramble at the VFW.

Organizers also are looking for hole sponsors. A $50 donation will get recognized on the tee box of choice. A $100 donation includes hole sponsorship and Facebook recognition.

In George “Butch” Focht Senior League action at the course this week, the team of Gary Zimmerman, Tom Shea and Don Stubbs edged out runners-up Lynn Perry and Gary Hoover.

In other action, the team of Jim Baughman, Dave Biseli, Brenda Flick and Jonathon Smith won the Sylvan Hills Golf Club Scramble. Finishing second was the team of Zimmerman, Brian Walters and Lynn Durbin. Third-place honors were earned by Perry, Shea, Buck Lear and Carolyn Painter.

In other action, the team of Sandy Murphy and Chris Sisto won the Member/Guest Tournament. Rita Brouse and Anita Jo Petrusky were second, followed by Bonnie Deem and Dana Kovash.

Completing the top seven teams were Rosey McCoy and Sandy Lantzy, Brenda Flick and June Reed, Bernie Mayancsik and Peg Smith and Carol Young and Penny Orr.

Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON — Ed Gargula and Jim Lakso are 2-0 after two weeks of action in the Big Orange Golf League at the Huntingdon Country Club.

Phil Thompson and Gerry Huggler, along with Rick Bayer and Larry Newton, are both 1-1, while Bill Frazier and Bob Lame round it out at 0-2.

Thompson was the low gross winner at 34, while Geoff Clark, subbing for Lakso, was the low net winner (32). The shot of the day was turned in by Bayer, a three-foot chip shot on No. 9.

Other substitutes on the day were Keith Black for Gargula and Alan Herbster for Huggler.

Philipsburg Elks

PHILIPSBURG — Ryan DelBaggio, Artie Fink Jr., Todd Homan and Mike Macionsky were the gross team champions at the Fish Open for the second time in three years, carding a 132 to win by four strokes.

Macionsky won the individual title by shooting a 66, two strokes better than runners-up Garrett Bastardi and Chad Gearhart.

Tim Ronan, Todd Reifer, Allan Herr and Jeff Herr won the net team competition with a score of 118.

In other action, Matt Johnson finished with a 145 to win the championship flight of the Walter Swoope Tournament.

Doug Goss was one stroke back in second (146) while Brandon Singer took third (147).

Flight winners included Chad Gearhart (154), Keegan Soltis (156), Hayden Hayward (161), Andy Reifer (155), Terry Smith (167), Chip Branthoover (174) and Girard Kasubick (181).

In ladies action, the winning team of Abi Newell and Hannah Newell won with a 121. Taking second with a 125 was Gabi Healey and Georgiann Way. Finishing third at 129 was Cathy Greenland and Gerry McCully.

Summit

CRESSON — Quintin Dziabo defeated runner-up Steve Destefano to win the Summit Country Club Match Play Championship.

In the women’s division, Therese Perino topped Sandy Smith in the championship flight, and Rose Storm topped Carrie Fogel in the first flight.

The team of Doug, Carrie and Tanner Fogel, and Christine Sears, recently shot a 52 to win the Penn Cambria Basketball Boosters Benefit Golf Outing.

Losing on a card-off, and finishing second with a 52 also, was the team of Paul David Myers, Matt Repko, Crippen Taylor and Nick Brugh. The third-place included Ben Pratt, Denny Michina, Roger Crist and Paul Pentz, while fourth-place honors went to the team of Keith Saleme, Bill Marshall, Bill Hudack and Nick Macchia.

In other action, Sukye Bullock was the net winner (81) of the Ladies Memorial Tournament. Anita Jo Petrusky was the gross winner (87).

Scotch Valley

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Ethan Rhodes defeated Marco Swope to win the Scotch Valley Junior Golf Skill Competition at the Scotch Valley Country Club.

In the younger division competition, Sam Mikolajczyk won over Stella Mikolajczyk.

In other action, Tony Nastasi, Joe Adams, Frank Frontino and Matt Neumeyer won the ALSM Outing over the team of Terry Burd, Bill Allen, Keith Saleme and Todd Homan. Third-place honors went to the team of Steve Genter, Dan Magee, Bob Bilger and Rob Tyler.

The team of Rusty Brown, Ben Martin, Steve Martin and Joe Koehle won the Gregory Golf Gala event over the team of John Gibbons, Justin McCaulley, Josef Kovacik and Leonard DelBaggio.

The winner of the Cops On The Course event was the team of Eric Glunt, Deb Stitt and Scott Plank.

Fasolo excels

Dominic Fasolo won the Ridgerunner Junior Golf Tournament at Sinking Valley Country Club in Tyrone on Monday, June 24th with a score of 80. Fasolo also won the Ridgerunner Junior Golf Tournament at Park Hills Country Club in Altoona on Tuesday, July 30th with a score of 81.
