Lady Red Devils open with victory

NEW PARIS — The Central Cambria girls tennis team opened the 2019 season on Monday with a 5-0 win at Chestnut Ridge in high school action.

The Lady Red Devils got singles wins from Olivia Ratchford, Corine Markovich and Emma Ratchford, while the doubles team of Lily Persio and Andie McCullough picked up a victory.

SINGLES: 1, Ratchford, CC, def. Smith, 6-3, 6-1; 2, Markovich, CC, def. Kissell, 6-2, 6-0; Ratchford, CC, def. Barnes, 6-1, 6-0.

DOUBLES: 1, CC won by forfeit. 2, Persio-McCullough, CC, def. Webb-Ickes, 0-6, 7-1, 7-4.

Lady Lions triumph

Altoona opened its season with a 7-0 win over Central at Mansion Park.

The Lady Lions picked up singles wins from Alese Rinker, Morgan Stevens, Eve Hogan, Emma Skelley and Emily Neil, while the doubles teams of Sophia Caputo and Mya Crownover, along with Avery Burchfield and Julia Whiting also won.

SIDMAN — Bishop Guilfoyle opened its season on the road with a 3-2 win at Forest Hills.

The Lady Marauders got singles wins from Erin Talko, Sara Manna and Madison Hooper all won, which was the difference in the matchup.
