Boosters defeat Martella’s
JOHNSTOWN — Greg Thompson’s two-run single in the eighth inning put New Orleans ahead, and three insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning proved to be enough to win the All-American Amateur Baseball Association’s national championship over defending champion Martella’s Pharmacy of Johnstown Saturday night.
Everett graduate Joel Colledge had pitched seven scoreless innings for Martella’s, which took a 1-0 lead on Dylan Gearhart’s RBI single.
Martella’s Pharmacy loaded the based to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning but managed just one run on Adam Cecere’s RBI grounder.
The Boosters’ title was their 16th AAABA championship.
