Seven area players get 1st-team status

The Mirror coverage area had seven players selected to the 2019 PaHSSBCA Softball All-State first teams, including two each for Central and Bedford.

Claysburg-Kimmel catcher Harleigh Cavender and Glendale designated hitter Lexi Mulhollen were first-team picks in Class 1A, and Everett outfielder Brooke Colledge made the first team in Class 2A.

In Class 3A, Central outfielder Ashley Negley and designated hitter Dylan Claycomb were first-team picks, and Bedford third baseman Kaitlin Brunelli and designated hitter Lindsay Mowry were also honored with first-team selections.

Central also boasted two second-team picks in Class 3A — catcher Cam Feathers and outfielder Maddi Metzler. Philipsburg-Osceola’s Kam Harris was a second-team designated hitter in 3A.

Claysburg and Portage each had two second-team picks in Class 1A. Claysburg’s representatives were shortstop Emily Claar and third baseman Haileigh Reed, and Portage’s were first baseman Maryn Swank and shortstop Kara Dividock.

Also in Class 1A, Glendale second baseman Olivia Reese was a second-team selection.

In Class 4A, Cambria Heights second baseman Emma Stockley was a second-team pick.

The Pennsylvania player of the year was Central Dauphin pitcher Samantha Gress. Classificiation players of the year were Oxford Area second baseman Gianna Coyle (6A), Twin Valley utility player Grace Marsalo (5A), Knoch shortstop Monica Gourley (4A), Pine Grove Area catcher Trish Kopinetz (3A), Holy Cross pitcher Jenna Bradley (2A) and Williams Valley outfielder Mya Achenbach (1A).
