Local girl to compete at nationals

CRESSON — The Mountain Top Track and Field Club will have a representative in next weekend’s USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Altoona’s Reese Wilber of the Mountain Top team will be competing in the 3,000-meter run next Saturday. A student at Altoona Area Junior High School, Wilber will compete in the 13-14 age group.

Wilber qualified for nationals by placing fourth in the Region 2 meet at Slippery Rock this past weekend. She ran a time of 11 minutes, 42 seconds.

Mountain Top, coached by Lois Smith, had 30 qualify for nationals, but Wilber will be the only one able to make the trip to Sacramento.

Two Mountain Top athletes won events at the Region 2 meet. Central Cambria High School senior Nathan Kuntz won the 17-18 2,000-meter steeplechase in 6:58, and Forest Hills’ Dylan Wechtenhiser won the 15-16 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:01.
