Bedford, Claysburg make Legion final

BEDFORD — Bedford scored five runs in the first inning and got two hits each from Drew Hall and Ryan Mowry in a 9-8 victory over St. Michael to clinch a Cambria County Legion semifinal series victory Saturday.

The Hurricanes won the series, 2-0, and will play at top-seeded Claysburg in the league championship game Monday at 5:30.

Nathaniel Semanek and Mercury Swaim each drove in two runs for Bedford.

SOMERSET — Hollidaysburg rising junior Caleb Gampe pitched six shutout innings and allowed just two hits and struck out 10 as Claysburg shut out Somerset to win its Cambria County Legion semifinal series, 2-0.

Gampe also had an RBI single, and Hunter Klotz had an RBI double. Noah Muthler had a pair of sacrifice flies for Claysburg.

Sheetz Altoona wins

Garrett Rossman’s walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Tyreke Green to help Sheetz Altoona beat Passarello Altoona, 3-2, in the VFW 16U tournament title game at Mansion Park late Friday night.

Sheetz won the best-of-3 series, 2-0.

Rossman had three hits while teammate Cam Mauk had two RBIs as Sheetz advanced to the regional tournament, which begins Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mansion Park. Green earned the win in relief. He struck out four.

Passarello’s got two hits from Trevor Manley. Losing pitcher Aaron Carother struck out 10.
