Two District 6 champions will play for a state title

A pair of District 6 champions are headed to state championship games.

Mount Union got a two-out, two-run double from Quinnten Fultz in the fourth inning to break a one-all tie with District 10 champion Franklin, and the Trojans held on, 3-1, to clinch a spot in the PIAA Class 3A championship game.

Mount Union will play Notre Dame Green Pond, an 8-1 winner over Lake Lehman in the semifinals, on Thursday in the PIAA championship game at Medlar Field at 4 p.m.

Bald Eagle Area also punched its ticket to the PIAA Class 3A softball game thanks to a dominant performance from Madison Peters in the circle. Peters struck out 16 batters, and the Lady Eagles finally got her a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a walk-off bloop single with the bases loaded and two outs for a 1-0 win over Clearfield.

BEA will take on Pine Grove, a 17-0 winner over Bloomsburg in four innings in the semifinals, in the PIAA title game Friday at Beard Field at 1:30 p.m.

Bishop McCort, another District 6 team that made the PIAA semifinals, lost to West Middlesex, 6-3, on Tuesday.

The Crimson Crushers held a 2-0 lead after two innings, but West Middlesex tied the game with two unearned runs in the third. The Big Reds pulled away in the fourth with four runs, highlighted by a Logan Hurley two-run single. McCort scored another run to pull within three but got no closer.
