Glendale off to hot start in playoffs

FLINTON — Freshman Kyla Campbell tossed a five-inning no-hitter on Monday to lead the No. 1 seeded Glendale softball team past Blacklick Valley, 12-0, in a District 6 1A playoff matchup.

The Lady Vikings, who virtually ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, will get Conemaugh Valley in the next round.

Campbell struck out three and walked three. Offensively, Glendale led 7-0 after two innings. Alexis Mulhollen had two hits, including a home run while teammates Brooke Smeal, Olivia Reese, Madison Lukehart, Hanna Noel and Lilley Vereshack each had two hits.

Smeal totaled three RBIs while Lilley Vereshack added two RBIs.

NEW PARIS — Chestnut Ridge, the No. 1 seed in District 6 3A, scored four runs in the fifth inning to record a come-from-behind victory over Penns Valley in its playoff opener.

The Lady Lions, who trailed 4-2 after four innings, will host Ligonier Valley in the next round.

Jamie Emerick had the big night for the Lady Lions. She had two hits and four RBIs while teammate Lydia Mock added two hits, an RBI while scoring two runs. Kayla Diehl added a solo RBI effort.

Winning pitcher Atlanta Milliron scattered five hits and did not give up an earned run. She struck out one and walked one.

PORTAGE — Kara Dividock had a single and a home run for three RBIs to lead Portage past West Branch in the District 6 Class 1A quarterfinals.

Rhianna Benton, Emma Kissell and Olivia Kissell each drove in a run for the Lady Mustangs, and Olivia got the win after giving up nine hits to the Lady Warriors.

It is Portage’s first trip to the district semifinals since 2001.

LIGONIER — The season came to an end for Central when Ligonier Valley punched in a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to hand the Lady Dragons a 9-8 loss in the District 5-6 Class 3A quarterfinals.

Dylan Claycomb pitched all 10 innings for Central. She gave up four earned runs and eight strikeouts, and Cam Feathers hit a home run.

The Lady Dragons end the year at 14-7.

MARION CENTER — The Bellwood-Antis offense was stifled in a loss to Marion Center in the District 6 Class 2A quarterfinals.

Ashtyn Payne, Attie Poorman and Gabriella Finn drove in runs for the Lady Blue Devils, who trailed, 3-0, after three innings of play.

Mia Urbani led Marion Center with three RBIs on two hits, including a home run for the Lady Stingers, who led B-A, 5-3, after four innings.
