B-A knocks off No. 2 seed

THREE SPRINGS — Travis Luensmann helped get the Bellwood-Antis baseball team into the next round of the District 6 2A playoffs Monday afternoon.

Luensmann gave up a first-inning run, then pitched six innings of shutout ball, scattering five hits in the process of a 4-1 victory over Southern Huntingdon, the No. 2 seed. The win gets the Blue Devils a matchup at Bishop Guilfoyle on Thursday.

The junior righty struck out five and walked three as the Blue Devils improved to 13-7. Southern finishes its seasonatt 17-4.

Bellwood, which led 3-1 after three innings, got three hits and an RBI from Troy Walker to go with two hits from Alex Schmoke, and solo RBI efforts from John Kost, Nick Plank and Jack Luennsmann.

JOHNSTOWN — A nine-run sixth inning lifted Philipsburg-Osceola to a win at Richland in the District 6 3A quarterfinals.

The Mounties, who play at Forest Hills on Thursday, got three hits and four RBIs from Keagan Soltis to go with three hits and two RBIs fro Jeremy Whitehead.

Philipsburg-Osceola, down 6-4 after three innings, also got two RBIs from Trey Shaw as part of a 13-hit attack.

Ryan Whitehead started and got the win. of the seven runs Richland scored, only three were earned in a game in which each team committed six errors.

PORTAGE — Nathaniel Davis struck out 14 battters and allowed only two hits and two runs while working into the seventh inning Monday, pitching Homer-Center to a victory over Portage in a District 6, Class 2A quarterfinal baseball playoff game.

Jacob Kishlock had a single and drove in a run for Homer-Center, which benefited from five Portage errors and built a 5-0 lead after six innings.

Portage also had just three hits, including a single and two RBIs from Hunter Whitcomb.
