Altoona volleyball team triumphs

Dalton Keller collected 21 service points, seven kills, six digs and nine aces as Altoona defeated Huntingdon, 25-9, 25-14, 25-11, on senior night at the AAHS Fieldhouse Wednesday night in high school boys volleyball.

Chris Ball posted a team-high 18 assists for the Mountain Lions (3-11).

Austin Homan chopped in with seven kills, Andrew Cassidy had four kills, Noah Ruggery had five kills, and all three had two digs each. Matt Furrer also had 11 assists and five aces.

Altoona recognized 10 seniors — Ball, Cassidy, Darren Ellis, Zane Esworthy, Furrer, Keller, Ryan Kimberling, Ruggery and Alfred Thompson.

EBENSBURG — Zach Malay scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Central Cambria past Bishop Carroll, 7-6, in a Laurel Highland Athletic Conference high school baseball game.

Devin Renzi scored three times on three walks for the Devils, and Trevor Harriger, Dyland Bloom and Carter Seymour each drove in one run.

Mason Beisnvenger was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Huskies.

Tyrone prevails

TYRONE — Despite a loss in No. 1 singles, Tyrone won the remaining four matches to get a 4-1 win over Central Mountain in high school boys tennis action.

Caden Brooks and Caleb Orr had singles wins for the Golden Eagles, now 7-9.

The teams of Nick Lewis and Dean Grassi, and Leighton Ahlert and Kelton Raabe won in doubles action.

Playoff rugby set

The Blair United/

Hollidaysburg Rugby team will be traveling across the state to Hatfield to face off against North Penn U-19 in the quarterfinals of the Rugby PA Division 2 championships.

North Penn is 6-1 and seeded fourth. Blair United/Hollidaysburg is 5-2 and seeded fif­th.

The winner will advance to the Final Four Championships at Penn State Berks campus the following weekend.
