Mountain Lions stockpiling victories

The Altoona boys tennis team improved to 13-1 Monday afternoon, thanks to a twinbill sweep over DuBois, 5-1, 5-2, in high school action.

The Mountain Lions’ Jonah Brandt, Nick Schimminger and Ben Warren each won twice in singles play. Casey Rispoli won once in singles play and teamed up with Brandt and Mike Schimminger to win in doubles play.

DuBois fell to 7-4.

Eagles soar

TYRONE — Tyrone captured four singles matches and one doubles in earning the 5-2 win over Huntingdon in high school boys tennis action.

Caden Brooks, Caleb Orr, Nick Lewis and Dean Grassi won singles matches for the Golden Eagles, while the team of Daniel Bukowski and Taran Pelky captured their doubles match.

Bruce Perow won the No. 1 singles for the Bearcats, while the team of Andrew Savino and Leighton Ahlert came up with the doubles victory.

BG spikers lose

Despite posting several impressive individual statistics, the Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School boys volleyball team dropped a 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 24-26, 8-15 decision to unbeaten West Shamokin (8-0) at the Pleasant Valley gymnasium.

BG (4-5) got 40 assists and 11 service points from Kai Kimberly, 22 digs and 16 kills from Josh Welteroth, 19 kills, 12 digs and five blocks from Connor Ebersole, 19 digs from Bradyn Yahner, and 10 service points from Ethan Miller.

NB boys get two

LOYSBURG — Northern Bedford’s boys and girls track and field teams competed against Juniata Valley and Williamsburg, with the boys winning both meets, while on the girls side, Juniata Valley won two, taking care of both Williamsburg and the host Panthers.

For the boys, Northern (8-2) got double wins from Ian Zimmerman (800, 1600) and Cadin Ebersole (100, 200). For Valley, Jefferson Hill won three events (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, triple jump).

On the girls side, Halle Smith won three events for the Lady Hornets (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, triple jump) while her sister, Olivia Smith, won the 400 and the long jump. Teammate Morgan Hess won the 800 and 3200. For Northern, Mara Laird won the 100 and 200.
