Golden Tigers need just five for victory

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Junior Bryce Helmer pitched a five-inning no-hitter with four strikeouts, while allowing just one base runner in an 11-0 shutout of Punxsutawney on Wednesday in high school baseball action.

Caleb Gampe and Nick Helsel each had two hits and three RBIs in a game the Golden Tigers led, 6-0, after one inning.

Teammate Sam Servello had two hits and an RBI, and Sam Mierley drove in two more Golden Tiger runs while improving the team to 7-4.

Furrer Beverage scored 14 runs in five innings on just three hits, but got help from six errors and 12 walks in a 14-4 win over Cumming Motors in an Altoona Teener League 14-15 game at Seitz Field.

Lambert Palmer had two hits and three RBIs for the winners, who led, 8-1, after two innings. Teammates Calvin Lafferty, Cameron Pittman and Canyon Neyman each drove in two runs.

Winning pitcher Brady Shehan gave up one earned run in four innings.
