Central Cambria boys, girls shine

EBENSBURG — The Central Cambria boys and girls track and field teams each picked up two wins on Wednesday in high school action, earning victories against Bedford and Bishop Guilfoyle.

On the boys side, Harrison Brumbaugh and Michael McCloskey led a balanced attack with two wins each as CC downed Bedford (98-52) and BG (136-13). Bedford did defeat BG (142-7).

On the girls side, Cc beat Bedford (113-37) and BG (140-10) while Bedford defeated BG (127-20). McKenna Hayward led the Lady Red Devils with three victories while Paige Wess, Abigail Walwro and Cassidy Bezek each won two events.

CR boys, BC girls win

NEW PARIS — Bishop Carroll, Chestnut Ridge, Bishop McCort and Westmont Hilltop competed against each other at Ridge, and on the girls side, Bishop Carroll downed Ridge (109-39), McCort (88-53) and Westmont (95-55) while Ridge lost to Westmont (106-43).

On the boys side, Ridge took care of BG (114.5-34.5) while losing to Westmont (99-51). Carroll beat McCort (72-65) but lost to Westmont (118-32).

For the girls, Carroll got three wins out of Jenna Bobroski in the shot put (30-1/2), discus (105-2) and the javelin (99-2), and from Maddie Murphy in the triple jump (36-11), long jump (16-13/4) and 100 (12.89). Caroline Ratchford won the 100 hurdles (17.22) and the high jump (5-2), while Kate Yahner placed first in the pole vault (9-0) and the 800 (2:37).

On the boys side for Ridge, Logan Pfister won the triple jump (42-23/4), the long jump (19-5) and the high jump (6-2). Teammate Duane Knisely won the shot put (49-11) and the discus (177-2).

Good day for NB boys

HANCOCK, Md. — The Northern Bedford boys won the Tri-State Invitational with a big performance from its relay teams.

Northern finished with 121.5 points while Tussey Mountain took second out of 13 teams with 112 points.

Northern’s 3200 relay team of Caleb Diehl, Ian Sherlock, Connor Laird and Ian Zimmerman won in 9:11.92. The 1600 relay team of Zimmerman, RJ Gates, Lucas Heck and Diehl won in 3:43.13.

On their own, Gates won the 110 hurdles (18.42), while Zimmerman won the 1600 (4:33.15) and the 800 (2:03.80).

Tussey’s team of Jarred Sipes, David Smith, Tyler Rhodes and Bryan Rankin won the 800 relay in 1:39.92. On his own, Rhodes won the 100 (11.53) and the 200 (23.47).

In the field, Tussey’s Damon Lemin won the discus (119-06).

On the girls side, Tussey Mountain finished second (82) to Brunswick (121). Northern Bedford was third (74.83).

Meghan Molosky won two events for Tussey, taking first in the long jump (14-1/2) and the 200 (27.69).

NC boys sweep

NORTHERN CAMBRIA — Northern Cambria’s boys swept Purchase Line (85-59) and Saltsburg (100-49) while the Lady Colts lost to Purchase Line (71-60) and to Saltsburg (91-37).

Against Purchase Line, Adam Kopera won the 100 (11.72), the 200 and the long jump (17-9) while Brady Mikitko won the 110 hurdles (18.2) and the 300 hurdles (49.0).

Zach Malicky won the shot put (40-10) and the discus (118-2) against Saltsburg, while Mikitko’s 110 and 300 hurdles times stood up against the Trojans.

On the girls side, against Purchase Line, Briana Zernick won the 100 hurdles (19.2), the pole vault and the long jump (13-11.5). Teammate Regan Sheredy won the shot put (31-3) and the discus (79-9).

Against Saltsburg, Sheredy also won the javelin (88-2) as well as the shot put and discus. Zernick’s pole vault showing also held up for a win.
