BU/Hollidaysburg now 3-0

INDIANA — The Blair United/Hollidaysburg boys rugby team improved their record to 3-0 this past weekend, taking care of Indiana County, 29-12, at Indiana Area High School.

Playing in cold, snowy conditions, BU was also missing six starters due to various reasons.

An early turnover by BU resulted in an Indiana try and conversion, making it 7-0. While the locals continued to control the ball, another penalty gave Indiana another score, pulling ahead 12-0 after a missed conversion.

Thanks to some strong passing, BU/Hollidaysburg finally got on the scoreboard, thanks to Sam Haines, who rumbled through several tacklers for a try, which made it 12-5 right before halftime.

The second half was all BU. Playing solid possession rugby, Jake Ardary, from Bishop McCort, scored his first of two tries, with a conversion by Gus Dellinger, to tie it at 12-12.

Two Indiana players were hit with penalties that kept them out of the game for 10 minutes. An attempt to score by Ian DiPangrazio was stopped by an illegal tackle, which forced the referee to award a rare penalty try, which automatically awarding BU seven points.

Ardary scored a few minutes later on a 40-yard run, evading several tacklers. Dellinger, a Kutztown rugby recruit, scored the final try to set the final at 29-12.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Ardary. Several players, Dylan Freet, Creed Norris, Jared Scarbro, Weston Barnes, Kaige Norris and Collin Campbell made their first varsity appearances.

BU is on the road at Elizabethtown this Sunday.
