Flash win 6th straight

TEANECK, N.J. — The Saint Francis women’s basketball team won its sixth game in a row Saturday afternoon, taking care of Fairleigh Dickinson, 77-65, in a Northeast Conference matchup at the Rothman Center.

The win streak is the team’s longest of the season.

The Flash evened their mark at 12-12 overall and 9-3 in the NEC. FDU fell to 6-17 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

Saint Francis’ Jess Kovatch led all scorers with 19 points, while Courtney Zezza (15 points, eight rebounds) broke the program’s all-time blocks record with 279 career blocks, passing Cheril Meier’s mark that had stood for 33 years.

The win sets up a big game for the Red Flash on Monday when they host rival and NEC first-place team Robert Morris at 7 p.m.

“When you can go on the road late in the year and not play your best and still win by double-figures, I think it’s a mark of a good team, “Red Flash coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl said. “Our depth really helped us in the fourth quarter. Every kid who played today scored.”

Saint Francis seized a 31-26 lead following a Zezza layup with 4:57 to play in the second period en route to a 36-33 halftime lead.

FDU opened the third with a 9-2 run to grab a 42-38 advantage with 7:54 to play

Trailing 54-51 early in the fourth, Saint Francis used a 15-0 run to take a 66-54 lead that it wouldn’t relinquish
