Henninger, Altoona race past Golden Tigers

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Braeden Henninger and Gabe Ebersole of Altoona finished first and second respectively as the Mountain Lions defeated Hollidaysburg, 21-37, in high school cross country action Monday afternoon. Jeremy Jones of Hollidaysburg finished fourth in 18:31.

Lauren Shaffer of Portage won the girls race in a personal-best 20:22, but Altoona placed seven runners in the top 10 and it was able to get past Hollidaysburg, 21-40. Sierra McClain finished second for the Lady Tigers in 21:27, and Mackensie Kelley of Altoona finished third.

Mountain Lions tie

BOALSBURG — In a match play point system contest, Altoona and Saint Joseph’s battled to a 24-24 tie at Mountain View Country Club in high school golf.

The six golfers from each team played two nine-hole matches. With each win, the player earned three points for his team and a tie netted 1.5 points.

Kyle Hite and Lucas Muffie each earned six points for the Mountain Lions by winning their matches.

Tigers win match play

LEWISTOWN — Jake Gallagher and Anthony Martinelli both won 9-up in match play to help lead Hollidaysburg to a 5-1 win over Mifflin County Monday afternoon in high school golf action.

Eric Davis, Gaige Orndoff and Frank Yeager also won matches for the Tigers (11-3).

PHILIPSBURG — Halle Herrington shot a medalist score of 40 to lift the Philipsburg-Osceola girls golf team to victories over Hollidaysburg (153-160), Clearfield (153-169) and Bellefonte (153-186).

Taylor Hileman carded a team-best 47 for the Lady Tigers, who topped Clearfield and Bellefonte.

Maria Farabaugh, Emma Ratchford and Corrine Markovich each picked up singles victories for Central Cambria, and the team of Sam Archangelo and Kassy Gruca won in doubles action.
