Altoona grad shines at Saint Vincent

After earning the first two victories of her collegiate career recently, Saint Vincent College freshman Maura Skelley was recognized as the women’s tennis rookie of the week by the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

An Altoona graduate, Skelley picked up a pair of victories as Saint Vincent topped Juniata, 6-3. The freshman teamed with senior Lucy Bujdos to win 8-5 at first doubles before claiming a 6-4, 6-2 win at third singles over Emily Dowler.

Saint Vincent is 1-1.

Senior safety Reid Miller was instrumental in No. 24 Montana upsetting No. 16 Northern Iowa recently in college football action.

The Montana Grizzlies won, 26-23, with Miller, a native of Hollidaysburg, finishing second on the team with nine tackles and a pass breakup.

Miller also plays on special teams kickoff and is the holder for extra points and field goals.

Jake Lindner, an Altoona Area High School graduate, is a two-year starter as a sophomore for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Conference Seton Hill football program.

Lindner moved from starting right guard last season to starting right tackle this season. He is majoring in business and sports management at SHU.
