Corporal Miller picks up first win of the year

Jake Hunter’s RBI single to center allowed Mitchell Greaser to score, and Corporal Miller picked up its first win of the season, 5-4, in eight innings Saturday night at Vets Field in a George B. Kelley Federation game. Hunter had two RBIs on the day.

Greaser was credited with the win for Corporal Miller, and Cam Mauk doubled and singled for the game’s only multi-hit performance.

n Shirley’s Cookies was dominant at the plate, winning twice by the 10-run rule in a doubleheader over Sheetz at Vets Field.

Seth Musselman drove in three runs and Coby Hunt brought in two more while Corey Chamberlain struck out seven as Shirley’s took game one in five innings, 13-3. Musselman, Conner Oakes, Preston Imler, R.J. Helsel and Kobe Harr each had two hits.

Chamberlain continued his strong day in game two, driving in three runs on two doubles and Helsel singled twice for two more RBIs as Shirley’s Cookies won, 11-1, in 4¢ innings. Parker Dibert was credited with the win.

n Nevin Wood drove in three Martin Oil runners, and with two RBIs apiece from Jack Showalter and Owen Shaulis, Martin Oil took advantage of 12 Park Home walks to race past Park Home at Geesey Park, 15-1, in five innings.

Mark Stewart was the winning pitcher for Martin Oil as it improved to 3-1.

n Nick Light outdueled Nick Blake in helping Tyrone Legion nip Patton Legion, 1-0, at Ferner Field in Tyrone.

Light tossed a six-hit shutout, while Blake gave up just seven hits. Kevin Lehner drove in Andrew Pearson with the only run of the game in the fourth inning.

Altoona Teener League

Noah Smith’s two-run single and Matt Moyer’s two RBIs were the difference in Saturday’s 10-8 PennCrest Bank win over Professionals Auto Body at Seitz Field in the Altoona Teener League Deremer division.

Moyer and Rocco Grassi each had two hits for PennCrest, and Moyer split pitching duties with Braden Callahan, striking out three and four, respectively. Callahan got the win for PennCrest, which improved to 12-2 and solidified the top spot in the division.

Professionals remained in second after it fell to 10-3.

n Parker Stampley broke the game open in the third inning with a two-RBI double, and Caleb Fasick strole five bases and scored three runs as Cumming Motors won by mercy rule, 10-0, in 5¢ innings in a Lowey Division game at Seitz Field.

Justin Fleck only allowed one hit through five innings, striking out eight and walking two.
