Altoona tennis team takes care of Tyrone

Jonah Brandt, Casey Rispoli, John Keating and Ben Warren were straight-set winners in singles to propel Altoona to an 8-1 win over Tyrone in high school boys tennis action Tuesday at the Bertram Leopold Complex.

Paul Lemaire accounted for Tyrone’s only team point with a win at No. 2 singles.

Altoona improved to 3-1 while Tyrone fell to 1-3.

Bedford sweeps

SAXTON — Caleb Beidle, Jess Hampton and Luke Dague won singles matches for Bedford in its 5-0 sweep of Tussey Mountain in boys tennis action.

Bedford remained perfect at 12-0 while Tussey Mountain fell to 1-4.

The team of Zach Kachman and Lance Dague won at No. 1 doubles, and Joey Windows and Cole Hampton were victorious at No. 2 doubles.

BG triumphs

Bishop Guilfoyle swept Central, 25-12, 25-13, 25-22 in boys high school volleyball action at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium behind 22 assists, 10 digs and 12 service points from Vincent Good.

Michael Burke had 10 kills for the Marauders.

Austin Laufle had eight service points and six assists for the Scarlet Dragons.

BG improved to 4-0 while Central fell to 0-5.

Reffner shines

EVERETT — Sydney Reffner had three hits — a double and two singles — and an RBI to lead Everett to a 4-2 Inter-County Conference South/Sideling Hill League win over Fannett-Metal in high school softball action.

Brittany Ewing added two hits for the Lady Warriors, while Brooke Colledge drove in two runs. Jacie Martin struck out 11 and was the winning pitcher.

Lady Lions falter

Mount Union scored 10 runs in the third inning in a mercy-rule victory that lasted just three innings over Altoona in high school softball action at the Logan Elementary School.

Alyson Adams scored the lone run for Altoona. The Lady Trojans hit five home runs and finished with 20 hits in three innings.
