Fink edges Baer by 1 for Sinking Valley title

TYRONE – Artie Fink carded a four-round total of 299 over two weekends to win the championship flight of last Saturday’s Sinking Valley Club Championship by one stroke over Matt Baer (300) and two over Jimmy Ferguson (301). Gergory Ferguson (304) was fourth.

Jeff Chestney won the first flight with a 147, and he was followed by Don Filby (151), John Taylor (155) and Brandon Hribik (156). Steve Turiano won the second flight with a 161, and he was followed by Tom Otto (162), John Graham (168) and Steve Shank (168).

Ron Kenner won the third flight with a 165, and he was followed by Ralph Hamilton, Tom Stetter Jr. (173) and Drew Campbell (175), John Bernhart won the fourth flight with a 178, and he was followed by Rick Garbinsky (179) and Charlie Taylor (191).

Suz Price won the ladies flight with a 172, and she was followed by Anna Myers (181), Kathleen Taylor (185) and Loane Maier (191).

Iron Masters

ORE HILL – Jordan Albright earned his first Iron Masters Club Championship with a 149 – one shot better than Ron Hinish (150). Spencer Hinish (152) was third, and David Lucks was fourth.

Mike Farrell won the first flight with a 158, while Mark Steele (159) was second. Kevin Feath and Duane Geisler (162) tied for third. Joe Burke won the second flight with a 168, while Don McCready (170) was second, and Alan Claar (172) was third. McCready won the handicap championship with a 134 net, while George Bailey (139) was second, and Albright (139) was third.

Gwen Paden won the women’s club title with a 167, while Kate Conway (168) was second, and Ashley Albright (171) finished third.


CRESSON – Doug Simanski won the championship flight of the Summit Country Club’s Match Play Club Championship, while Quintin Dziabo finished second.

Guido Fabbri won the first flight, while Dale Perino took second. Rufus Bex won the second flight, while Derek Olsick was second. The third flight wasn’t played due to injuries. Charlie Horten won the fourth flight, while Alex Strittmatter was second. Stan Wojcik won the fifth flight, while Alfred Eger was second.

Maddie Krug won the women’s division championship flight, while Anita Jo Petrusky was second. Diana Naugle won the first flight, while Rose Storm was second.

Sylvan Hills

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Bernie Mayancsik took first place in the championship flight of the Sylvan Hills Golf Club’s Ladies Golf Association Club Championship. Brenda Flick and Rita Brouse were second and third, respectively.

Carol Young won the first flight, while Connie Angeski was second, and Lynn Durbin was third. Rosey McCoy took the second flight, while Denny Madden was second, and Marian Monios was third.

Chris Seymour had the low gross of 37, while Donnie Fisher had the low net of 31 in the Thursday League. Ron Bowser was closest to the pin on second and fourth holes. Bruce Baldwin and Dave Biseli are the league leaders with 87.5 points.

Park Hills

Darlene Grove won the gross division of the Women’s Presidents Cup with an 84 at the Park Hills Country Club, while Stephanie Kirsch (91) took second. Danene Engle won the net with a 61, while Sue White (65) was second.

Doe Bolger took first in the Aug. 18 Ladies Day, while Grove was second. Paul Smith, Rick Drabic, Hank Codd and Ron Hutchison took first place in the senior event on Aug. 19. Ron Dandrea, Wayne Apple, Terry Riggen and Tom Moore finished second, while Sen Thach, Phil Trimarco, Lynn Grove and Bill Wolf placed third.

Thach, Bill Deremer, Dave Francis and Pete Litzinger won the Aug. 12 senior event. Jim Burke, Apple, Herb Bolger and Drabic finished second, while Norm Heiberg, Don Gillespie, Kevin McGeary and Hutchison took third.


HUNTINGDON – Bob Lamey had the low gross of 37, and Phil Thompson had the low net of 35 in the Big Orange Golf League at the Huntingdon Country Club. Thompson’s putt on the 18th to win his match was the shot of the day.
