Curve inching closer to .500 mark

HARRISBURG — The Curve have played some of their best ball of the season lately and have pulled back within one game of .500.

Altoona won its third game in a row Wednesday afternoon, pounding Harrisburg, 7-1, at FNB Field. The Curve have won seven of their last nine to improve to 20-21.

Aaron Shackelford’s three-run homer in the sixth inning broke up a tie game and put Altoona on top to stay. Shackelford now has six homers and 23 RBIs.

The Curve added three more runs in the ninth inning, capped by a two-run double from Blake Sabol, who’s tied with Shackelford for second on the team with 23 RBIs.

Liover Peguero, Connor Scott and Sabol had two hits apiece for the Curve.

Will Kobos (2-0) won in relief for Altoona, while J.C. Flowers pitched two innings for his second save.
