Ryan to manage Cubs’ AA team
Former Curve manager Michael Ryan has found a new home as he will be manager of the Chicago Cubs’ Double-A affiliate, the Tennessee Smokies.
The Pirates have yet to announce the Curve coaching staff for this season but are expected to do so later this week or next week.
Ryan led the Curve the past three seasons, winning an Eastern League championship in 2017 and reaching the playoffs again in 2018. He was let go by the Pirates following the 2019 season, with little explanation from the organization as to why.
The Indiana, Pa., native now will move on to manage a franchise located just outside of Knoxville, Tenn., that plays in the Southern League. The team has been a Cubs affiliate since 2007.
“Very thankful and fortunate to get an opportunity with such a successful and respected organization,” Ryan told the Mirror. “Although I will miss it in Altoona, I can’t wait to get this season started.”
