Curve’s struggles continue
TRENTON, N.J. — The Curve’s freefall continued Wednesday night as they got into a big hole early and were pounded by Trenton.
The Thunder scored four runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth on their way to a 7-2 win at Arm & Hammer Park.
The Curve dropped to one game above .500 at 54-53, and their playoff hopes are gone after a swoon over the past two weeks. They’ve lost eight out of 10, and one of those wins was the continuation of a suspended game from two months ago with Altoona up 6-0 in the third inning.
The Curve were 49-39 on July 14 before going 5-14 since.
Starter Nick Economos (0-2) gave up seven runs — six earned — on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings to take the loss for Altoona.
Nick Green (2-3) won for Trenton, holding the Curve to one run on four hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Jared Oliva had two hits for Altoona, which had just six hits for the game. He drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, and the Curve’s other run scored in the third on a wild pitch.
The Curve and Thunder will play a doubleheader tonight starting at 5. It’s the makeup of a game rained out May 29.
