Curve move 2 over .500

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Curve continue to excel this month as they improved to an Eastern League best 10-3 in June with a victory Friday night to open a road series at Binghamton.

Hunter Owen went 3-for-3, and Robbie Glendinning belted a two-run homer for some insurance late as Altoona beat Binghamton, 6-2, at NYSEG Stadium for its sixth win in seven games.

The Curve’s record stood at 23-28 at the end of May, but their hot start this month moved the club two games over .500 at 33-31. The team hasn’t been three games over since it was 6-3, following a 5-0 start to the season.

Altoona scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead, but Binghamton tied it in the fifth. The Curve grabbed the lead for good on Jason Delay’s RBI groundout in the sixth, scoring Jerrick Suiter.

Glendinning, just up from high-A Bradenton, drilled a two-run homer in the seventh to stretch the cushion to 5-2. Bralin Jackson finished off the scoring with an RBI double in the eighth.

Owen’s 3-for-3 night raised his average back to. 300, and he also drew a walk. Glendinning and Suiter added two hits apiece for Altoona.

Curve starter Domingo Robles gave up two runs in 4 2/3 innings but didn’t last long enough for a chance to earn a victory. Blake Cederlind (2-0) won in relief as Altoona used four relievers to finish off the game.

The final reliever used was Austin Coley, who has been serving as the opener every fifth day with the team using a four-man rotation.

Harol Gonzalez (3-2) took the loss for Binghamton, giving up three runs on six hits over six innings.

The Curve have four games remaining in the first half, then the record goes back to 0-0 for the second half beginning Wednesday.
