Curve fall again to 16-2 Senators

HARRISBURG — The Harrisburg Senators have the best record in all of pro baseball at 16-2, and they keep finding ways to torment the Curve.

Altoona battled back to tie the game in the eighth inning Tuesday night, only to see Harrisburg score the go-ahead run in its half of the frame for a 5-4 win at FNB Field. The Curve dropped to 0-5 against the Senators, who have won seven in a row.

Hunter Owen gave the Curve a chance Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a homer, triple and two runs. He hit a solo shot in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, and down a run in the eighth, he tripled and tied the game at 4-4 on a sacrifice fly by Mitchell Tolman.

Harrisburg, which won Monday night, 1-0, on a home run in the eighth, again did its damage in the next-to-last inning to win. Adrian Sanchez tripled to start the eighth against reliever Jake Brentz (0-1), and two batters later, Drew Ward singled up the middle to bring home the decisive run.

Dan Jennings (1-0) won in relief for the Senators, and James Bourque pitched the ninth for his third save.

The Curve jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind Owen’s homer in the second and Stephen Alemais scoring on a passed ball in the third.

The Senators charged back in the fifth, scoring four times off Curve starter Cam Vieaux. Pitcher Erick Fedde singled home Harrisburg’s first run, and Ian Sagdal later drilled a three-run homer for a 4-2 lead.

Harrisburg’s 16-2 start is the best in franchise history, and it has gone 10-1 at home. The Senators have opened up a 6 1/2-game lead in the Western Division, a sizable cushion with the Eastern League going to a split-half format this season.
