Covering the bases

LEADING OFF: The Curve were off Thursday and will begin a six-game homestand tonight at 6 against Richmond. The Flying Squirrels have lost five in a row.

SAFE AT FIRST: Pitchers tonight: Curve RHP James Marvel (2-1, 1.99) vs. Flying Squirrels LHP Garrett Williams (0-1, 3.46).

STEALING SECOND: The Richmond franchise suffered a tragic loss this week when one of its employees was murdered in his home. Alexander Wynn, 60, was a food service worker at The Diamond, and after working Monday night’s game, he returned home and was shot and killed. Police are still searching for the shooter. “He had a sense of pride, and it is just incredibly sad that this senseless act of violence happened,” Flying Squirrels vice president Todd Parnell, a former Curve general manager, told Richmond’s local CBS affiliate.

ROUNDING THIRD: Tonight’s game marks the return of former Curve broadcaster Trey Wilson to PNG Field for the first time as a member of the visiting team. Wilson, a Virginia native, left the Curve this past offseason for a similar job with the Flying Squirrels.

HEADING HOME: After three games against Richmond this weekend, Erie comes to town for three games beginning Monday.
