Lions safety Morice Norris arrives at facility

DETROIT — Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris was at the team’s training facility with teammates on Sunday, two days after he was taken off the field in an ambulance late in a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to share the details, said Norris was released from an Atlanta hospital and returned home on Saturday.

Norris shared a social media post the day after he was injured, saying he’s OK and thanking people for their support.

“I’m all good man don’t stress,” he said, adding he appreciates all of the check-ins and support.

Norris was in stable condition late Friday night after he was attended to for about 20 minutes by medical personnel and taken to an Atlanta hospital.

The 24-year-old Norris was hurt with 14:50 left in the preseason game after hitting Falcons running back Nathan Carter. He hit Carter with his facemask facing the running back’s midsection and his head snapped back after assisting on the tackle.

Chargers 27, Saints 13

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Trey Lance scrambled for a 5-yard score and rookie Eric Rogers had a 43-yard pick-6 in a mostly sluggish offensive performance by the Los Angeles Chargers in an exhibition win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

The Chargers’ defense had a goal-line stand and a strip-sack that led to a turnover while dominating the Saints, who committed seven penalties for 56 yards and got sacked five times.

Chargers rookie Jamaree Caldwell took down Tyler Shough for a 9-yard loss in the third quarter. Rogers also intercepted Jake Haener in the fourth before getting hurt with 1:43 remaining.

Dolphins 24, Bears 24

CHICAGO — Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had an efficient start to the preseason and Miami and the Bears finished in a tie in Ben Johnson’s Chicago coaching debut.

Playing in a preseason opener for the first time since 2021, Tagovailoa completed 5 of 6 for 27 yards in a 15-play drive against Bears backups, but the Dolphins failed to score on their first drive because of a Bears goal-line stand.

Giants 34, Bills 25

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It took one half of their preseason debuts for Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart to provide promising glimpses into the New York Giants’ present and future in a win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

The 36-year-old Wilson — New York’s anticipated season-opening starter — was efficient in running the Giants’ quick-strike passing attack by going 6 of 7 for 28 yards in an opening drive ending with Graham Gano’s 53-yard field goal. The 22-year-old Dart — New York’s starter in waiting — then closed the half by displaying his arm strength and mobility in overseeing three scoring drives on four possessions.

The rookie first-round pick out of Ole Miss finished 12 of 19 for 154 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey, while adding three carries for 24 yards.

Elsewhere Saturday:

Vikings 20, Texans 10: J.J. McCarthy was solid in his brief return for the Vikings, going 4 of 7 for 30 yards while leading a scoring drive in his only series and Minnesota topped Houston in the teams’ preseason opener.

RAMS 31, COWBOYS 21: Stetson Bennett passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns in a strong start to the preseason, leading Los Angeles to a victory over the Cowboys in new Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s debut.

BUCCANEERS 29, TITANS 7: Cam Ward’s pro debut was solid, if unspectacular. The first overall pick in this year’s NFL draft completed five of eight passes for 67 yards, but more importantly was composed and looked comfortable running Tennessee’s offense in the Titans’ preseason-opening loss to Tampa Bay.

JETS 30, PACKERS 10: Justin Fields ran for a 13-yard touchdown in his lone series and New York defeated Green Bay in the preseason opener for both teams.

CARDINALS 20, CHIEFS 17: Patrick Mahomes needed just 48 seconds on the field to get his preseason off to a good start. Mahomes — a three-time Super Bowl champ entering his ninth season with Kansas City — took advantage of a short field after Arizona fumbled the opening kickoff, hitting Jason Brownlee for a 1-yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.

BRONCOS 30, 49ERS 9: Jarrett Stidham threw two TD passes following a lackluster performance from Bo Nix and Denver’s starters, and the Broncos beat San Francisco in the preseason opener.
