AP report: Bears hiring Lions’ offensive coordinator as coach
The Associated Press
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has agreed to become the Chicago Bears head coach, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.
Johnson spent three years as Detroit’s offensive coordinator under Dan Campbell and was considered the top head coaching candidate on the market. He spent his previous seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Dolphins.
The Lions earned the top seed in the NFC at 15-2 before getting stunned by Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders in a divisional playoff game on Saturday.
The Bears, who interviewed 17 candidates for thejob, fired Matt Eberflus on Nov. 29. Chicago finished last in the NFC North at 5-12.
Finding work
The Indianapolis Colts hired Lou Anarumo as their defensive coordinator, a person with knowledge of the hire has confirmed to The Associated Press.
Anarumo replaces Gus Bradley, whose contract was not renewed after it expired following an 8-9 season in which the Colts missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year. Anarumo spent the past six seasons as the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator.
The Bengals fired Anarumo after missing the playoffs, too.
