PSU Altoona falls in season opener

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The Penn State Altoona men’s basketball team opened its season on Tuesday night with a 95-66 loss against non-conference opponent St. Mary’s College at the O’Brien ARC Arena.

“When we executed our system, we played well. When we deviated from it and tried to do our own thing, both offensively and defensively, we struggled,” Penn State Altoona  coach David McGreal said. “We were also outscored 30-6 in 3-pointers. We were 2-for-24, and you can’t beat anyone shooting like that.”

Marquis White led the Lions (0-1) with 14 points, and Javon Wilson added 11 points and four rebounds. Ishimeal Nance scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots.

Anton Lucas scored nine and had seven rebounds, Quinn Luhr finished with eight points and four boards, and Brian Allen contributed seven points and nine rebounds.

Mount men beaten

FROSTBURG, Md. — Tyler Michael hit on 16-of-18 shots from the field and scored 32 points in leading Frostburg State to a 110-88 victory over Mount Aloysius College in men’s basketball.

Troy Williams and Jourdan Lamberth each scored 14 points for the Mount (0-1), and Tre Brown scored 12.

JC falls to Dickinson

HUNTINGDON — The Juniata College women held a four-point lead entering the fourth quarter but were outscored 25-13 and fell to Dickinson, 72-64, in their season opener.

Jennifer Smith scored 13 points off the bench to pace Dickinson. Dani Atkinson led the Lady Eagles with 17 points, Katy Leamer scored 13, and Rachael Anstine added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
