Kenneth E. Mountain Sr., 85, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday.
He was born in East Loop, Hollidaysburg, son of the late Samuel A. and Lulu Victoria (Cartwright) Mountain. He married Betty L. Robinson on June 29, 1947, in First Baptist Church, Hollidaysburg.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage; a daughter, Kathy Gicking and husband, William, of Hollidaysburg; a son, Kenneth E. Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Duncansville; five grandchildren: Jill (Brian) McConnell, Julie (Bill) Hanlon; Joy (Brian) Bell, Jennifer Marcy; Kenneth E. (Jamie) Mountain III, six great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca; three sisters: Vada P. Neal, Doris E. White and Edith Boyer; a brother, Harold A. "Ham"; and an infant brother.
Ken was a 1947 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and was the leader of the monthly meetings of the Class of '47 held at Prime Sirloin. He served in the Pa. National Guard. Ken was owner and operator of Mountain's Service Station, Hollidaysburg, retiring in 1994 after 26 years of service. Prior to that, he was employed by Altoona-Pittsburgh Freight Lines as a driver.
Ken was a member of Portage Lodge 220, F&AM. He was an active member of St. John's Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg, serving as elder and presenting children's sermons.
Ken enjoyed being a driver at the Micro-Midget Reese Speedway, Lower Reese, and serving as chairman of family reunions. A donor of 58 units of blood, he was a conservative and life-long Republican. He enjoyed woodworking, being outdoors and observing wildlife.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, by the Rev. David P. Haydu. Interment will be at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. Memorials may be given to St. John's Reformed Church, 904 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg.
