Harold W. Thacker Jr., 68, Altoona, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Dayton, Ohio, son of Harold W. Sr. and Amy (Lewis) Thacker. He married Barbara A. Gates on March 7, 1992, in Flinton.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Wendy Custer of Windber; two stepsons: Brandon (Ronda) Hescox and Brent (Jessica) Hescox, both of Bellwood; a stepdaughter, Bethany (Shane) Pepe of Slatington; grandchildren: Brady, Matthew and Alexa Thacker, Brooke and Bryson Hescox, Jordan Hescox and expected Dylan Hescox, and Michael and Makayla Pepe; a brother, John (Marilyn) of Marietta, Ga.; and three sisters: Mary Thacker and Shirley (Donald) Allen, both in Ohio, and Starla (Randy) Oates in Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by a son, David; and a grandson, Tyler.
Harold was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God, Altoona, where he volunteered at the church food bank. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, Pastor Walter Smith officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
